ABOUT US

Racial Beginners is an on-ramp for people who didn’t talk about race growing up to begin their racial journey. We began simply as journal entries and conversations in 2020 after the murder of George Floyd in the realization how little we knew about race in America. In putting those diary entries on video we hope to engage white Americans who, like Rob, never considered the issues facing Black America, or white Americans’ role in those issues.

We are only beginners. This label and attitude helps us maintain our grounding. We are not leaders, but followers. We all have much to learn. As we fail, and make mistakes, we want to model an environment where mistakes are not fatal, but a sign that white people are trying to grow. To fail means that you are trying. Then, we try again. It’s not easy since we are unlearning 400 years of white habits. We keep going and stay humble. We don’t expect the world to be gentle with us, but we will be gentle with each other.

We exist to educate and encourage total beginners to start their racial journey and help them start building a practice of anti-racism.

We currently have no income, our funding is completely out of pocket. Our hope is to eventually have income and use the profits to support the Black community through gifts to Black owned organizations, non-profits, and leaders.

We are aware that making money off Black people’s pain is unacceptable. We are also aware that many white people haven’t found a safe starting point to begin their racial journey.

*We have a panel of Black voices who review our work and offer input and corrections. Like we said, we are beginners, always learning and growing.

ROB

Rob is a lover of wine, a great cigar, St Francis, travel, F1 racing (and anything that goes fast). And as you might have noticed, an Enneagram 8.

Rob and his wife have two grown kids, and an irritating golden doodle.

We didn’t learn these things on our own, we have been drinking deep from amazing leaders in this space. If you want to see who we have and are learning from, here are some of them. We will be updating this list as we continue to learn and grow.
